Welcome to Mohu’s Cord-Cutting HQ. You’ll find everything you need to get started and free yourself from that cable or satellite bill.

What is cord-cutting?

Cord-cutting is the process by which cable or satellite customers, frustrated with escalating prices and subpar customer service, decide to pull the plug on their expensive monthly TV bills in favor of free, reliable, high-definition TV reception.

Depending on what’s broadcast in your area, you’ll be able to watch popular national TV networks and local TV shows at no cost. Even if you’re already streaming content, a Mohu TV antenna will complete your cord-cutting experience. Streaming content doesn’t cover live TV events, but Mohu antennas will pull in all of your local news, weather, sitcoms, kids shows, and sports programming, including major live events like the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the NBA Finals, and the World Cup.

After the Digital TV (DTV) transition was finalized on June 12, 2009, television stations converted to an all-digital broadcast that offers some of the best picture quality available anywhere. OTA (Over-the-Air) television now provides high-definition broadcasts, HD sub-channels, digital resilience, and no static.

How does OTA TV work?

The broadcasting station transmits programming from their studio to the high-power broadcasting towers generally located near most major urban areas. These towers then rebroadcast the signal to the homes and houses nearby where the signal can be picked up by the TV antenna in your home.

At Mohu, we work on improving the TV antenna in your home to allow you to receive stations more clearly and from further away.

Digital TV is actually capable of a higher resolution than cable or satellite, but some broadcasters choose to use a lower resolution which allows them to transmit multiple programs (or streams) in the same bandwidth, which is called multicasting. As a result, you may be able to receive multiple channels from NBC or FOX, for example.
