Several streaming services offer live broadcast channels in select markets. Think: Hulu with Live TV, YouTube, Sling… the list goes on and on.
Recently, there’s been news surrounding a new service that also offers those broadcast channels for a monthly fee. It’s calledĀ SiMeTV and is offered on Apple TV and Roku. But not much is known about this new streaming service, raising questions about its legality.
Streaming Broadcast Content
In an article by Cord Cutters News, the team found that SiMeTV is streaming some local broadcast channels including NBC from South Florida and some Canadian content. But it’s unclear how the service would be able to do that. Cord Cutters News also found that SiMeTV, up until recently, wasn’t available in the United States.
Of course, there are many credible streaming options that offer live broadcast streaming, but be cautious when trying new services that may seem questionable.
Antennas: Always Legal and Free
If you’re looking for ways to watch your local OTA channels, the only legal and free option is with an antenna. Antennas pull in OTA signals from broadcast towers, which includes channels like ABC, CBS, NBC, the CW, and others. In fact, 94 of the top 100 shows are available for free over-the-air. Use Mohu’s channel scan tool to see what broadcast networks you can get in your area.
Though live TV streaming continues to grow in popularity, an antenna is still one of the mostĀ important parts of cord cutting.
