Latin shows to watch over-the-air for Fall of 2015
If you’re searching for fresh latino content, you will be hard pressed finding anything on the major English-language channels. Although companies like NBC have made minor moves in this direction; networks like Univision are still the places to turn for television shows produced by and for Latinos (something we hint at in our cord cutting guide for Hispanic American TV viewers).
Univision has made some big strides in widening its audience over the last few years, and 2015 is no different. Regardless of whether you speak Spanish or are just curious about Hispanic-American television, there is something for everyone on Univision.
Recently, the Spanish-language broadcast giant has released a slew of new telenovelas that the company hopes will keep the station #1; and today we’re going to a look a few of these new shows as well as the award-winning news programming the station offers and of course, sports – all of which is yours to enjoy for free with an OTA antenna.
Let’s get started!
Lo Imperdonable
If you’re in the mood for a story full of intrigue, romance, and betrayal; you really should check out one of Univision’s newest telenovelas: Lo Imperdonable. Set in the beautiful region of Huasteca, Lo Imperdonable is a show full of twists and turns to keep you interested.
The story centers on a man bent on avenging his dead brother by seducing and taking revenge on the woman that drove him to suicide. Interestingly enough, Lo Imperdonable is actually a remake of the 1998 telenovela La Mentria; which won 4 Premios TV y Novelas awards.
Now so far, Lo Imperdonable has been suffering from sagging ratings, but with promises of new twists, plots, and character deaths it’s going to be interesting to see how this show adapts and whether it will live up to the high expectations of its predecessor.
Antes muerta que Lichita
Looking for a laugh? Then take a look at the new comedy/drama Antes Muerta que Lichita.
Set to premiere on August 24th, Antes Muerta que Lichita is a show about one woman’s climb to the top. The story centers on a young woman named Lichita, played by La Gata star Maite Perroni. After eight years of being the office whipping girl for an ad agency, Lichita decides to reinvent herself as the powerful and confident Alicia.
Naturally, our true protagonist runs into various dilemmas that not only test her strength but also her morals as well. How far will Lichita/Alicia go to make it to the top? You’ll have to watch to find out.
A que No Me Dejas
Brought to you by the same team that brought you the award-winning Amor Bravio; we have A que No Me Dejas, a love story that spans across multiple generations.
Like Lo Imperdonable, A que No Me Dejas is a remake of another telenovela: Amor en Silencio. The story follows two sets of star-crossed lovers as they encounter overwhelming odds and impossible obstacles in the way of their love.
While A que No Me Dejas is not the most unique story ever told, it is those classic telenovela elements that make this show addictively watchable. If you want a traditional, sweeping romance filled with drama, tears, impossible odds, A que No Me Dejas will be right up your alley.
Noticiero Univision
This incredibly informative nightly news program is anchored by the 8-time Emmy-award winning Jorge Ramos (just one of several programs Ramos hosts on the network) and the equally decorated María Elena Salinas, who this year alone has already racked up a PEABODY Award, Walter Cronkite Award and Gracies Award.
Noticiero Univision has been “covering stories and issues of special interest to the Hispanic community for over 25 years.” Tune into the nightly newscast weeknights at 6:30 p.m. ET.
