Besides major broadcast channels like ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, do you know what other networks are available over-the-air?
In a recent article by Cord Cutters News, they found that there are actually over 100 OTA channels you can watch for free with an antenna. And as the cord cutting trend continues, we can expect to see continued growth in the number of OTA networks.
Increase in OTA Channels
In the past few years, there’s been an increase in over-the-air networks as more people turn to antennas to watch TV. Even locally here in Raleigh, a new station, Start TV, became available just last week. New channels like Start TV are popping up all the time.
Even though streaming services offer certain live channels, there are still many networks that are available for free over-the-air. PBS and PBS Kids are both OTA channels that aren’t available on streaming services. ION and the CW are also two major networks you can get for free OTA (Riverdale, anyone?) Do some home shopping with HSN and QVC, which are available with an antenna in 59% of US homes. There are also several OTA Spanish networks like Univision and Telemundo.
Rescan Your Antenna
It’s important to regularly rescan your antenna, as new channels become available and some networks switch numbers. According to the FCC, now may be the time to rescan as many local stations switch channel numbers soon. You might even get lucky and find some new channels to watch!
