One of the most popular questions I get is what my favorite streaming device is right now. I honestly use a lot of streaming devices, and my current inventory includes Roku 3, Roku 2, Roku 1, Roku HD, Roku Stick, Fire TV, Chromecast, G-Box Q, and a Quantum Byte Mini PC. These don’t include the many review units that have passed through my office. I also use a Mohu Curve antenna for local stations.
Here is why I love all of these devices:
Mohu Curve
The Mohu Curve Antenna is a amazingly powerfully little indoor antenna. I love how easy it is to set up and how it looks sitting in my living room. Unlike many unsightly antennas the Mohu Curve looks great next to my TV.
Roku
I love the Roku for how easy it is to use. Even my two year old loves it and can pick out the episode of “Sofia the First” she wants to watch before bed. It also has a huge collection of channels both free and paid.
Fire TV
I love the Fire TV for how powerful it is, and the fact that I can use it in hotels when I travel. (I travel a lot.) I also love how tied it is to Amazon Instant. If you love Amazon Instant, the Fire TV is the device for you.
Chromecast
Chromecast is mainly used for YouTube and to cast videos from my PC when I edit videos. I love how dead simple it is to cast videos. Chromecast is the device you want if you watch a lot of YouTube or need to cast videos.
G-Box Q
The G-Box Q is a very solid Kodi/XBMC box. With all the updates, it is very solid and rarely ever hangs up or crashes. (My Roku crashes more than my G-Box Q.) I use it for reviews of Kodi add-ons and Android apps.
Quantum Byte Mini PC
The Quantum Byte Mini PC is a great little Windows 8 box. It is made by the same people who made the G-Box Q. They offer great U.S. customer support out of Florida—something most cheap boxes do not offer. A Windows PC connected to your TV is a must have for any cord cutter, because a full web browser is still the best way to access many legal streams not available on Roku and other streaming boxes.
